Well, here it is, our first proper blog post. This is all new to us here at Brynglas holiday cottages so you'll have to bear with us over the next few months. Firstly we would like to say a Happy New Year to all, and hope that 2012 brings you much happiness and opportunity. Must say however, the weather here in Mid Wales, particularly Powys is giving us a right battering. You might say not the best time to be outside but you would be wrong.

If you like walking there are lots of walking websites out there to promote particular areas in the UK such as Cumbria, Scotland, Yorkshire etc. but Mid Wales is very often missed. So I thought I would take this opportunity to tell the world about what amazing walks and routes we have, particularly as Mid Wales is proud to have Powis Castle near Welshpool voted the best walk in the UK by the National Trust. Being only a 20 minute drive from Brynglas Farm I must say it comes to no surprise that Powis Castle have won this award, it truly is a fantastic walk. For more information, please visit and check out the story on Wales Online.

Wales is now in New York Times' top 40 places to go in 2012 specifically for its hiking and walking routes which says a lot about the quality of our walks.  http://nyti.ms/wBpDEa
So what else do we have in Mid Wales to encourage the active walker? Well, there are many routes for you to try out such as the fantastic Ann Griffiths walk which is a seven mile Walk winding  down the Vyrnwy valley from Pont Llogel to Pontrobert.

For a truly fantastic walk why not combine this walk with the Glyndŵr’s Way which runs alongside the Ann Griffiths Walk, check out this map  of the walks provided by Powys Tourism. These walks take you next to rivers, over hills with fantastic views and past interesting sites to see. Glyndŵr’s Way begins in Knighton, on the border with England, where it connects with the Offa`s Dyke Path. It goes through small market towns in Mid Wales and tiny villages, going through Wales to Machynlleth and back across Powys to Welshpool.

We've only mentioned 2-3 major walks here but there are many more such as Ffynnon Y Clawdd Llesg up the road in Meifod, Gregynon near Llanfair Caereinion, Kerry Ridgeway, Severn Way and many more. I would write in more detail about all these walking routes but that would take me a very long time as there is so much to talk about so instead i'm going to direct you to a fantastic BBC website which has these routes in more detail http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/mid/sites/walks/

With these walks only a stone throw away from us, when your planning your next walking holiday and need somewhere to stay, then we are perfectly located central in Powys with easy access and information on all these routes to make your stay a very active or relaxing as you like.

Feel free to comment on this blog and share with us your walking experiences in Mid Wales and of any routes that are worth a mention.

Also check out Powys Ramblers for news and information regarding our lovely local walks http://powysramblers.org.uk/

I love walking since it is a good exercise. I've been in Mid wales and this is a nice place.I won't be surprise if this place will be listed again in New York Times.
